Career Options - Big Industry or Government

There are multiple career options after degree in engineering: -

- Design - R&D - Plant Operation - Maintenance - Utilities - Marketing

- Coaching - Consultancy - Startup - Trading - Project Management

- Stores - Purchase - HR & Training - Others - Academics & Research

All these are CAREERS that need different skill sets. A person fit for Design may not fit in Marketing and Teaching is an art by itself. Yet, skills and capabilities can be acquired by training or self-effort.
A job with multinational corporation (MNC) or public sector undertaking (PSU) may ask you to work in Design, R&D, Plant Operation, Maintenance, Materials, Marketing or some work that is not to your liking.
If one doesn’t get work area of choice, it’s wiser to adapt rather than think of immediate change, because there is learning opportunity and scope of creativity in every function.
Job with MNC, PSU or any large company should be treated as RELATION. That calls for knowing its history, culture, technology, products, people and growth prospects.
Making of long term relation needs understanding, mutual trust, devotion and protection of each other’s interest. Therefore explore and learn enough about the company before applying for a job.
A job in PSU or admission to M Tech needs GATE qualification. Start early preparation, if that's your choice.
